The University of Cincinnati basketball program has always found success when recruiting the state of Texas and new head coach Mick Cronin looks like he intends to keep up their profile in the Lonestar State. The Bearcats have secured a verbal commitment from 6'3 shooting guard Larry Davis from Hastings High School in Houston. Early comparisons of Davis have been made to another former Texas standout for the Bearcats: Field Williams.

Davis is the first commitment for the incoming class of 2007 for coach Mick Cronin and he chose UC over schools such as Boston College, Oregon, UTEP and SMU. Cincinnati assistant Tony Stubblefield had been in contact with Davis for some time and the Bearcats recruiting efforts with Davis intensified after a solid showing at the Adidas Superstar Camp in July. Davis has yet to visit the UC campus, but is expected to do so in the next few weeks.

With the commitment from Davis, we show the Bearcats with two open scholarships since Hernol Hall committed late int he 2006 recruiting process and Dominic Tilford recently decided to transfer out. With the available scholarships we definitely expect coach Cronin to continue to try to add size to the roster with at least one of the grants. Some players that saw the UC staff watching them intently this summer were Mamadou Diarra (6'11 from Stoneridge Prep), Anthony Randoplh (6'10 from Dallas, TX), James Johnson (6'8 from Cheyenne, WY), Tearon Hill (6'9 originally from TX) and Kennan Ellis (6'10 North College Hill, OH). as you can tell, Cronin's recruiting stretches far and wide with interest in players across America. Anthony Randolph is the highest rated player among the group and the toughest to get, but the Bearcats are among his top 5 schools.

With the final scholarship available, it looks like the Bearcats are likely to add a backcourt player. A couple of the players they seem to be on the most aggressive include 6'4 guard Eshaunte Jones, PG Dwan McMillan, PG Biko Paris (another form Texas) and Georgia's Tony Neysmith.

I am still trying to narrow down the Cincinnati recruiting targets. Every day it seems like new names from just about anywhere in the country pops up on the Bearcat radar. Mick Cromin is a tireless worker on the recruiting trail and he has already brought nine players into the fold since being hired last April. There will certainly be a lot to keep track of with this new staff.

We will keep you posted!
